I've had a headache with neck pain for the past 11 days.?

I've been to the doctor. She put me on three days of Immutrex. Still no relief. They took blood and couldn't find anything wrong. I'm scheduled for a CAT scan in a few days, but I'm looking for anyone that's been through something similar. The pain is focused on the right side of my head and neck. It's rather constant and ranges between a 3 and a 7. I've never had anything like this before.

With the consent of your Dr. go to a qualified massage therapist.

The pains may be caused by muscles or soft tissues. Trigger points in the muscles of the head, neck and face can refer pain into other areas and even mimic the symptoms of other conditions.

If other conditions exist, trigger points can still be a contributing factor to your pain.

Poor sleeping positions or sustained postures can also cause these issues. The massage therapist can help identify possible perpetuating factors and suggest ways to change.

Some common irritants can be poorly positioned computer monitors, using laptops, holding the phone with your shoulder, etc.

PS- she's right about the RDA for H2O. The amount needed is actually increased based on other factors like exercise, environment and diet. Things like caffeine and sugar require more water intake as so does exercise or living in an arid climate.

The best identifier of dehydration is thirst. Once you feel thirsty you are already dehydrated. Thirst is also usually confused for hunger. Most over eaters aren't actually hungry but thirsty.

Sounds like what I went through: it turned out to be two herniated discs in my neck.
I recommend a chiropractor. Drugs mask pain. Chiropractors *treat* pain.
I recently went through the same thing,for 16 days straight.It turned out to be dehydration. I was drinking carbonated water instead of old fashioned water and the carbon dehydrates you. I started monitoring my water intake and took some magnesium and got rid of it in 2 days.Your brain is 85% water and if you get even mildly dehydrated, headaches are the first sign. I didn't know any of this until this happened to me. I hope this will help. You need 1 oz of water for every 2 lbs of body weight per day,by the way!

Hmmm, Goodys for a regular one, Excedrine Migraine for the migraines or if it's a really bad migraine, I go to the darkest room, turn of anything that makes noise, cover my face with a wet towel. Sometimes it hurts to keep my eyes open or closed, so that's when passing out comes in handy.

Since I have been getting headaches for about 13 years now, and had a breast reduction to try and stop them, and it didn't work, I know have to take Vicodin EX for the rest of my life WOOHOO! I also eat lots and lots of BC powders. Because the Vics don't get ride of the pain they just put me in a state for about 30 minutes that I don't care. But if I catch it early enough. 2 to 3 BC's will do the trick.

It could be a migrane or if you havent had your tonsils out yet maybe that could be the problem. I had sever headaches that lasted 2 weeks from my tonsils untill i had them removed.

well the dizzy thing could be from low iron or dehydrated. the pain in your face could be from you grinding you teeth at night or clinching your jaw. if you are clinching your jaw, you maybe stressed just take some aleve before bed to relax your jaw muscle.
could be a migraine however if it's been four days you need to contact your doctor to rule out something more important

When you have a headache it's due to the blood vessels in your skull and around your brain dilating or getting wider. Becuase the brain and the blood vessels that feed it are inclosed in the skull which is (for the most part) a solid plate, when vessels dilate there is no place for intercranial preasure to be relieved. The pain you feel is a result of that preasure inside your head from veins and arteries dilating and pressing against the cranial walls. Things like smoking and certain drugs (Nitro) will cause vessels to dilate and things like caffiene and drugs like Epinepherine will cause the vessels to constrict.

The main reason for headaches is tension and sometimes dehydration after alcohol or long periods in the sun) The tension puts the nerves under a sort of strain and they become tired and in doing so tend to misfire and give of pain signals which is relayed to the pain centre in the brain. The blood vessels also dilate or stretch and this affects the nerves so they give off signal that indicate stress and interpretes to the brain as a pain. In the dehydration event it is reduced fluid in the body that changes the electrolyte balance causing the nerves to misfire once again and scramble signals that alert the pain center in the brain that something is not right This resultys in the mind registering pain Usually behined the eyes and the head itself. Blood vessels are also involved. Quite often the intake of fluid back into the system restires the swollen bllod vessels back to normal and thus reduces the stretching on the nerves

That is ther simplified version. It is much more complicated for a non medical person to follow But that should give you a fair answer

I believe there are many diferent reasons, your head can hurt when you are to tire or you could have a infection like the flu guess it depends on if your sick or stressed or tired but their are different reasons just like there are different meds to help

i can't say for sure. you could be getting a cold or sinus infection. then again you could just have some congestion for some reason. do you have allergies?
